Description

A collection of correspondence, press cuttings, case histories, appointment books, sketches, articles, etc. relating to the life and career of Dr Jean Macnamara. There is a large amount of published material much of which consists of Dr Macnamara's own writings. There is also a considerable volume of material relating to her interest in the eradication of rabbits by the introduction into Australia of the virus disease, myxomatosis. She was largely responsible for persuading the Australian Government to hold field trials using myxomatosis. Other fields of interest represented in the collection include orthopaedics, research into polio, and animal diseases which have some relationship to human beings and to domestic animals. Also included are several folders of letters written by Dr Macnamara to her family while she was overseas on a Rockefeller Foundation travelling scholarship from 1931-1933.
