A new Constitution, including the change of name from the Brighton Ladies Benevolent Society to the Brighton Benevolent Society was passed at the general meeting of 19 November 1985 (copy of the new and the original Constitutions, together with the Deed of Trust, pp 48-56 Mr. G Hofsteede, the first known male member of the Society since Mr Budd was elected Hon. Treasurer in March 1863, was present at this meeting and read the Constitution.
