Description
Dr the Hon Bernice Pfitzner, medical practitioner and Member of the Legislative Council, talks about growing up in Singapore and her family background, in particular her mother’s determination to have a tertiary education and go into teaching. In 1949 her mother was the first woman to be elected to the Singapore City Council. She discusses the difficulties in having such a busy, famous mother. Pfitzner then talks about coming to Australia during WWII and her early schooling, returning to Singapore after the War, choosing medicine as a career, difficulties with her family over her choice of husband, doing post graduate work in child development at University of London, returning to Australia and her decision to go into Liberal politics.
