Abstract

This book is the closest thing a researcher can find to an archive of material relating to the early development of netball in Tasmania The author, Pauline Barker, has spent two years tracking down key figures of the game, combing the island for records and newspapers and collecting photographs along the way. She makes a good case for the argument that the origins of the sport nationally can be tracked to Tasmania, specifically the Friends School in Hobart with encouragment from the Physical Culture enthusiast Marie and Christian Bjelke-Petersen.
