Valda Arrowsmith served as a councillor on the Nunawading City Council from 1979-90 and was its mayor from 1987-88. In 2003 her contribution to public life was acknowledged when she was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia 'for service to the community of Nunawading , and to local government.'
