Women in the Workforce WWII

During the Second World War, the Barrier Industrial Council lifted its ban on married women working and many women took up employment at the Munitions Annexe. The composition of Broken Hill's population during wartime differed from most: mining was deemed an essential profession and the majority of men were prevented from enlisting. A number of women did leave home to serve with the Australian Army Nursing Service.
