Julie Bishop was born in Lobethal, South Australia in 1956. She studied law at the University of Adelaide and, folllowing her marriage, moved to Western Australia in 1983. Bishop entered parliament as a member of the Liberal Party when she was elected to the House of Representatives in 1998. She was Minister for Ageing from 2003 to 2006 and Minister for Education, Science and Training from 2006 to 2007. In 2007, she became Deputy Leader of the Liberal Party of Australia and Deputy Leader of the Opposition. In 2009, Julie Bishop became Shadow Minister for Foreign Affairs and in 2010 Shadow Minister for Trade.
