Summary

Eileen Lenihan was private secretary to a succession of politicians and others including Treasurer RG Casey (1935-36), Prime Minister Joseph Lyons (1936-39), Prime Minister Robert Menzies (1939-51), Attorney-General and later Chief Justice John Spicer (1951-58), Chairman of the Australian Universities Commission Sir Leslie Martin (1959-65) and Australian High Commissioner to Malta Sir Hubert Opperman (1967-69). She was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in 1951 and an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 1964.
