    24 minutes A program in the Radio National ‘Verbatim’ series focussing on Australian nurses who served in France during the First World War. The program feature the experiences of Medina Douglas from New South Wales (in an interview by Ros Bowden) and Dora Woods from South Australia. The latter interview is from the State Library of South Australia’s J. D. Somerville Oral History Collection at OH 17/30, but the original recording was not suitable for broadcast. Instead, Dora Wood’s words were read by actress Betty Lucas. Topics range from conditions in casualty clearance stations, the wounds and illnesses of soldiers, medical treatments available at the time, bombardment, social activities and the experience of living under canvas during winter.
