This exhibition tells the story of Alexandra Cameron MBE, Victoria’s first Secondary School Inspector of Music, Margaret McCarthy, the first librarian appointed to the Victorian String Music Library and Judy Hall OAM, legendary Gippsland-based music teacher who fulfilled her lifelong dream of playing in the Melbourne Town Hall at the age of ninety-six. An accompanying essay outlines the history of music education in the state of Victoria.

This uncredited illustration 'The Drover's Dream' is taken from Alexandra Cameron's book Singing Together: A Song Book for Boys and Girls in Secondary Schools (F.W. Cheshire, 1965).

Work on this project was generously funded by Dr Neville McCarthy, The Australian Women's Archives Project and The eScholarship Research Centre at the University of Melbourne.
