Esther Poelman stood as a candidate for the Australian Democrats Party in the Legislative Assembly seat of Box Hill at the Victorian state election, which was held on 5 May 1979. She served as a councillor for the Box Hill City Council from 1968-74-77 and was mayor from 1973-74.
