Liberal Senator for Victoria (1950 to 1971, retired), Ivy Wedgwood was appointed to The Order of the British Empire - Dames Commander on 10 June 1967 for services to Parliament. |

Wedgwood was the first woman elected to the Senate from the State of Victoria. Retiring after 21 years in 1971 she was the first woman to chair a Senate Committee in 1968. From 1962 to 1971 Wedgwood was Temporary Chairman of Committees. The National Library of Australia manuscript biography advises: "She was a campaigner for improved facilities for handicapped people ... and a was a member of the group that met in 1944 to found the Liberal Party." Dame Wedgwood passed away in 1975. | |
