Summary

Chris Capel was nominated for the 1997 A.B.C. Rural Woman of the Year Award, for the Western and Carpentaria district of Queensland.

In addition to running her own property, Chris has worked to encourage and educate women to overcome their geographic isolation by enabling many people to successfully use the internet. She was a pioneer of remote area use of the internet and has since been active in helping others to be a part of the communications technology revolution. She worked with the telecommunications research project “Enhancing Rural Women’s Access to Interactive Technologies” since 1994. successfully lobbied for and trialled the first remote, home based teleworking project officer position for the state government’s Office of Rural Communities in 1997.

Chris is an Australian Rural Leadership Program graduate and has served on the committees of many community based organisations. She served as President of the Foundation for Australian Agricultural Women between 2003-2005.
