Details

The Adelaide Women's Prison Support Group was formed in 1996. A meeting was called for 14 October 1996 on the initiative of the Adelaide Womens Prison Project (AWPP). The AWPP was a strategic alliance of a number of South Australian women's services including the Women's Information Service, Women's Health State Wide, Northern Women's Community Health Service, Dale Street Women's Health, Department of Correctional Services, Greek Women's Society of South Australia, National Council of Women, Western Area Women's Shelter, United Nations Status on Women, Women's Electoral Lobby, Aboriginal Prison Education, Aboriginal Drug and Alcohol Council and the insideout program attached to the women's prisons. The AWPP recoginised the lack of information for women in prison and on release, the lack of half way housing support, and the lack of education programs for women in prison. The meeting was held in the Pilgrim Church Hall were a draft of a constitution was discussed.

hi
I was wondering how I get involved in this organisation. I am a music eduator with some time off during the week and wondered if there would be anything I could offer these women in terms of support or voluntary activities of just visits.
Interested in the process.
Many thanks
