Gina Rinehart was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) in 2022 for distinguished service to the mining sector, to the community through philanthropic initiatives, and to sport as a patron. She is the world’s richest woman and is a supporter of One Nation, the political party led by Pauline Hanson; in April 2026 she donated an aeroplane, worth more than $1million, to the Party. In 2024 she sought, unsuccessfully, to have a portrait of her by Vincent Namatjira removed from display at the National Gallery of Australia, and in 2025 the National Portrait Gallery returned a portrait by Alix Korte Rinehart had donated to the Gallery as it could not agree to the legal and display conditions attached to the gift.
